The Science of Epigentics
The Science of Epigenetics
The next generation of Erno Laszlo’s pioneering rescue treatments, Phormula 3-10, provides scientifically-advanced repair technology for extraordinary results. The formula is rooted in the science of Epigenetics, one of the buzziest fields in life sciences today. Epigenetics is a phenomenon with wide-ranging, powerful effects on many aspects of biology, and enormous potential in human medicine.
What is Epigenetics?
Epigenetics has become a buzzword in the beauty-industry in the past few years. As a science, Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene expression and activity. Gene expression is the process by which instructions in our DNA are converted to functional proteins—for example, collagen.
Chemical compounds and proteins that attach to our DNA can direct them to express or silence—turning them on or off. Epigenetics research examines how our behaviors and environment can cause these changes and affect the way our genes work.
How does Epigenetics affect the skin?
As we age, the genes in our skin responsible for collagen production become less active. But they can also become less active due to external factors, like sun exposure and air pollution. Epigenetics research estimates that environmental factors are responsible for a significant part of genetic expression—that is, turning our genes on and off.
Imagine how this can decrease the production of important proteins, like collagen, which are key factors in our skin’s structural support. Without these proteins, skin can experience signs of premature aging, including wrinkles and loss of firmness. It’s little wonder that the beauty industry is now exploring ways to use the science of Epigenetics.
Epigenetics in Skincare
Skincare rooted in Epigenetics is based on the concept that certain ingredients can affect gene behavior and counteract undesirable increases or decreases in gene activity by switching certain genes on or off (although turning genes up or down, like a dimmer light switch, might be the better analogy).
When genes are active and turned on, their functions are expressed (i.e. visible) on the outside. The Epigenetics technology in our Phormula 3-10 ritual seeks to promote skin health by combatting undesirable gene expression, helping repair and restore the skin.
Phormula 3-10: Inspired by Epigenetics
Inspired by the science of Epigenetics, we infused our Phormlua 3-10 ritual with our proprietary Epigene-6 complex.
Epigene-6 supports rejuvenation, encapsulating extracts of Apple, Ginger, and Vitamin B3 to address the six key signs of aging: skin firmness, elasticity, hydration, tone, texture, and depth of lines.
Apple is rich in antioxidants, minerals, sugars, and essential vitamins. Ginger, long-revered in Ayurvedic and Chinese herbal traditions, lends transformative antioxidants to nourish the skin and renew vitality. Vitamin B3 helps reduce the look of wrinkles, discoloration, and uneven texture. Together, this formula taps into the science of Epigenetics to keep skin looking its best.
Primary Benefit: Anti-aging repair
Recommended For: Mature skin that is already showing signs of aging
